1986: Shortly after hosting a special Christmas Party for my family, my girlfriend attempts suicide and I found myself groping on my hands and knees with no light in my imagination for what was happening to us.
I found my brother's suggestion that children to be on leashes to be odd at the dinner table during our christmas party. And after losing one child to abortion, the Admiral (my girlfriends father) shared a story from the Vietnam War that taught me to be more respectful of the kind of suffering that seems to require death. 2009: My brother gives me a custom Harley Davidson motorcycle on my birthday that my fiance rejected as too hazardous. Though I respected her opinion, I chose to drive it anyway and was glad I did.
